Who was lost and who was found? We as indigenous peoples believe Columbus day is the National Day of Mourning.

National Indigenous Peoples Day. Hell with Columbus.

by no one Monday November 01, 2004 at 06:46 PM

uuh yeah he was a terrorist.. he went into someone elses country and clamed it as his own, not only that but he killed the indigionus people of that country, therefore Christepher columbus is a terrorist. think about it. either way, weather he had discovered America or not our country would have been founded adventually.

Actually Columbus wasn't the first one to find the Americas at all. Vikings from the norse lands of europe had established colonies in Newfoundland (now present day Canada) in the 11th century.

christopher columbus
by Moi Wednesday November 02, 2005 at 11:19 AM
etiohjwoith@hotmail.com 905-686 9099 87 burbank cres

Christopher columbus was a terroritst... when he went to the country he "claimed" he found, it was already inhabited by indegenous people... he took their land and their credit and then he took their infants and fed them to hungry dogs while their mothers watched... he was a hero? no he was an anti-christ. If they didnt show their there regards for the crown... a crown they didnt beleive in he would cut of their hands.. and if they didnt give him gold.. he would cut of their noses.. so you read this and tell me if you think christopher columbus is a hero.. and besides.. if he hadnt found the new world.. which wasnt the Americas.. we would have been discovered anyways.. so dont give the credit to columbus for our being here... read and be informed and learn the acutal facts. not the lies in your textbooks..

Our country would have been founded
by Mecatl Sunday March 12, 2006 at 04:33 PM
yaochoquiztli@sbcglobal.net

We the indigenous of these lands found our selves and maid history here on our land. The Europeans invaded ,destroyed, raped ,stole, every thing our ancestor worked so hard to accomplish.40,000yrs marks the existence of us here on these lands. We meaning my indigenous ancestors created civalizations out of our own inteligence, with no intrusion of any culture at it time of development. The next step of our whole exisistence is the slavery we the indigenous of full-blood and mix-blood has been the oppresion of the European on our land.We are denied our whole true history of the crimes Europeans commited and continue to commit on our LAND !!!
So to answer that we would have been discoverd eventually is a bunch of F@#$! Crap. Europe invaded like a bunch of barbaric animals looking for food and instead of takeing what they needed Europe has stayed on our land and in alot of us in our Blood wirth scars from the rape commited..

what is up yo
by Thorpulous 10 Tuesday March 21, 2006 at 04:07 PM

man, this is a major disputed point. yes, Columbus was a "terrorist" if that is even the right word for it. but i think that you are missin the point. there were many other races of people that have done worse in history and plus you cant blame columbus for killing them off. even if someone else went and explored the new world, they still would have given the diseases to the indians. Cortez and everyone after were the ones that killed them off. plus the Amaricans are at most to blame for the displacement of the indians. we made hundreds of agreements and deplomicy contracts. and we broke every single one of them. were not trusworthy................................................................................

Most all of you people are blind. First off there's a good chance that you do not even know very much factual detail about the history behind all this. I would like to enlighten you all with some facts and then you can still think as you do, but I intent to enstill some doubt into your fragile / hollow minds.
1.) Columbus was not himself a rapist (show me some cited evidence from the journals he and his men wrote and I will believe you).
2.) He went to war with the Carib tribe only after returning from a journey to spain and learning that 40 of his men were brutally killed and mutalated.
3.) He had 1 of 5 taino indian tribes fighting for him in the euro/indian battles.
4.) The diseases (measles, influenza, ect.) that europeans gave the indians were equaled (if not bettered) by the diseases (sphyillis, tuberculosis, hepettitis, ect.) that the indians gave to the europeans.
5.) He didn't discovered america in a literal since you fools, we give him (documented) credit for discovering the americas for europe. Analogy: Russians probably didn't care about the first american in space, they did however care very much about the first russians in space.
6.) In regards to the post about indians discovering america: Well when you are indigenousness to a land then you are not exactly what I would call a discoverer. Who discovered africa (the said orgins of man)?
7.) C.C. enslaved only POWs. 500 of them to be exact (well a historical approximation). Some of his men did rape the women. Think about the time and think about the logic behind what they did. Men who put their lives on the line and survived (unlike many others) wanted some uncontested action from their captured enermies. Having unwilling sex, I'd assume, would be much more desireable then working as a slave your whole life. Spain later ask C.C. not to bring back anymore slaves after this. Also think of the times (not to say slavery is by any means tolerable)
but slavery was rapent in all cultures, and many of the cultures enslaved their own people.
8.) Don't forget that Indians in that day and age did not have a very respectable culture. They were human-sacrificing, self-enslaving, canaboles (although to their credit I hear that they were quite the tasty cut of meat), and stinky people! Man, and we thought the chinese where bad for eating cats!
9.) I'm dam proud of my heritage and I think the indians are starting to understand why, because they are to becoming a part of our culture more so than we become a part of theirs.
THanks and have a good night. All questions are welcomed.
I will end with this question: "why do you try to discredit history 500 years later?"
