The New York Times, Washington Post, and BBCnews.com all report that the G8 has reached a deal on debt forgiveness. Meanwhile Zmag.org, and indymedia.org remain silent, not even bothering to comment, let alone celebrate! What gives? If there are holes in the plan, let's analyze them. If the plan is genuine, let's celebrate! But to remain silent after campaigning so many years for this very thing, it has the appearance of partisanship... of "not acknowledging the good things the opposition does because they are the opposition"... and if that is the subjective-motive for not discussing this issue, then some of US are no better than some of THEM!

learn to wait
stop being so naive
distrust towards them has deep roots, it is not based in misunderstandings
we will see
and continue fighting as that is not what we (some of us) strugle for
I Agree

I think the debt-relief issue should be analyzed with a higher degree of scrutiny. The above author is right: If it is genuine debt relief then it should be commended — at least mentioned. My feeling is that there is more to the story than simple debt relief. The organizations/banks granting the relief have to be getting something back. History tells us that the banks are usually first to take and last to give back, especially on the level of relief discussed. I would encourage anyone with the means to investigate this issue further, and maybe we can determine what kind of "relief" these nations are actually getting.
